Kansas City Itineraries
Whether you have a day, a weekend, or a World Cup match to build around, here are pace-tested plans for Kansas City.
The perfect 1 day in Kansas City
- Morning: the National WWI Museum and Memorial — the exhibits and the tower views over downtown.
- Lunch: classic Kansas City barbecue — get the burnt ends.
- Afternoon: the free Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and its shuttlecock lawn.
- Evening: dinner and live jazz at 18th & Vine or the Green Lady Lounge.
2 days in Kansas City
Day 1 — History, BBQ & jazz
Follow the one-day plan: WWI Museum, barbecue, the Nelson-Atkins, and live jazz in the evening.
Day 2 — Plaza, Crossroads & the river
Spend the morning at the Country Club Plaza (shopping and fountains) and Union Station with Science City. In the afternoon, explore the Crossroads Arts District — galleries, coffee, and breweries — and the historic City Market in the River Market. Cap the night in Westport or the Power & Light District.
A weekend (Fri–Sun)
Arrive Friday evening for barbecue and late-night jazz at the Mutual Musicians Foundation. Use Saturday for the Day 1 and Day 2 highlights, and catch a Royals or Chiefs game if the schedule lines up. On Sunday, do a relaxed BBQ crawl and the City Market before heading out.
Visiting for the World Cup?
